Demand for Helicopter charter across Australia and PNG is on the rise

Helicopter charter is experiencing strong growth in all areas according to the Head of Charter Operations at Adagold Aviation, Simon Llewellyn.
“Helicopter charter is another area that is showing real growth for us, from the smaller end of the market such as leisure helicopters for joy flights, right through to the hard working heavy lift rotary aircraft which are so important for the mining and resources community”, said Mr Llewellyn.
With literally hundreds of aircraft now operating in the north west of Western Australia alone, we are seeing a diverse range of Helicopter types available for charter, some of which are able to carry up to 20 passengers long distances, over both land and water.
The demand for Multi-Engine (ME) Helicopters is predicted to almost double from 211 to around 400 over the next seven years due to Asian needs for oil, gas and minerals.
Helicopter numbers in Australia has doubled in the last ten years, from 980 to 1,964. Recent data has shown that the helicopter fleet in Australia is now growing at an impressive 11.4% per year. This is an impressive figure, especially when we compare it to aeroplanes which are struggling with an annual growth rate of just 0.8%. Some experts in the Helicopter charter industry predict the ongoing expansion of the energy and mining boom in the north of Australia will continue to drive up the demand for helicopters even beyond the present annual growth rate of 11.4%.
Papua New Guinea is also struggling to keep up with the demand and we are seeing an increase in charter enquiries for the region.
