Malcolm Weston

In House Counsel

Work Experience/professional history

I have over 7 years of experience as Adagold Aviation’s In-House Counsel.

I am admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Queensland and have earned my Master of Laws (Applied Law) majoring in In-house Practice from the College of Law, my Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne and my Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

Before working at Adagold, I gained over 15 years of experience in aviation with Ansett Australia, FedEx, Lufthansa and general aviation.

During my eight years working in the USA for FedEx I worked in various roles, including Ramp Operations Manager, Ground Support Equipment Administrator (Instructor), Ramp Agent (Weight & Balance/Load Master), Dangerous Goods Specialist/Spill Cleanup Specialist and Handler/Material Handler.  When I worked at Lufthansa I was planning the long haul flight routes between the USA and Germany, South America and Germany, and Russia and Germany.

In addition to my academic qualifications, I have also obtained my FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certification, my FAA certified Private Pilot Airplane Single Engine Land Instrument Airplane, my CASA Flight Crew Licence Private Pilot (Aeroplane) Licence and my CASA Flight Crew Licence Flight Radiotelephone Operator Licence.

Role and main work activities at Adagold

My role at Adagold includes assisting our Senior In-House Counsel with complex contracts and tender responses. On a day to day basis, I am involved in commercial contract negotiations and drafting as well as working on human resource matters.

What do you most enjoy about working at Adagold?

I enjoy the flexibility of working from home most days, and also that no two days are the same. I never know what work will come across my path day-to-day.

Activities/hobbies out of work, what do you love to do?

I enjoy photography. It gives me an opportunity to be creative, which is a nice escape from work.

Favourite travel destination?

I do not have a favourite, however, I have always enjoyed my visits to New Zealand, Mystery Island, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Any other fun facts about you?

My wife and I have a very vocal Siamese cat named Dudley who likes to walk on my keyboard or sit between me and the monitor whilst I work. When he is not helping me with my work, he sits curled up and naps on his chair beside me.
