Aviation has long played a vital role in disaster relief. Adagold is proud to be part of an industry that can provide relief to the most vulnerable people and groups across the globe. With recent changes to regulations concerning the movement of ship crews, Adagold has become increasingly aware of the hardship faced by crews during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The “Crew Change Crisis”
The International Transport Workers’ Federation’s (ITF) Australian branch has claimed seafarers have been kept working on ships for up to 18 months, with Australia’s COVID-19 quarantine restrictions stopping them from setting foot on land. As a result, ship crews have been unable to fly home when their contracts ended. Replacement crews were also unable to work, as they could not take their place for the ships’ next voyages.
Mental and Physical Health Implications
With hundreds of thousands of seafarers enduring extended periods onboard ships, their mental and physical health has taken a toll. The quarter two Seafarers Happiness Index (SHI) results showed happiness levels of seafarers at 6.18/10, down from 6.30 in quarter one. People at sea are desperate for solutions to get back home. According to Steven Jones, founder of the Seafarers Happiness Index, the message from ship crews is clear: crew changes are needed, and those who can make them happen must do so.
As this is highly distressing news to heart, enabling ship crews working across the globe to come home is incredibly important to us. While we need to continue shipping operations to protect our economy, ensuring the health and wellbeing of Seafarers is critical. Adagold is equipped with the resources to support crew ships so that they can return home safely and swiftly. Please contact us for more information.
Hundreds of crew members have been stuck in Perth, WA, because of tight laws on interstate travel. The West Australian Government stated that one of the few ways a crewmember can leave the state is via chartered flight while following a list of other restrictions. These restrictions have impacted several docks across the world.
Adagold Aviation offers its services to the struggling seafarers. If you or your workers need a charter to get home, contact us. We are committed to taking the burden off crew members and bringing them home with as little stress as possible.
