A prominent cable TV show had a requirement to film an episode of their documentary series on Lord Howe Island which is based 700km due east of Port Macquarie, NSW. It is literally in the middle of the ocean!
The Challenge
Flying a chartered aircraft to Lord Howe Island can be an involved process. So many factors need to be taken into consideration to determine the optimum aircraft and operator to make sure it’s a successful, comfortable and safe flight. If the weather deteriorates on approach, they must return to the closest airport, which is Port Macquarie, with adequate fuel on board.
Enter the Beechcraft Super King Air B200. This turbine propeller pressurised aircraft is one of the world’s most successful turboprop aircraft and was capable of delivering our film crew safely to the island.
The Results
The result was a safe and comfortable journey for the film crew. Our fully accredited aircraft and crew certainly enjoyed their stay on the island whilst the film crew did their thing! We are looking forward to the airing of the documentary due later this year.
